Ferry Rolls Dice on Shaq - So Far Comes up Craps
By LeBronmeter’s Robert Glassman - So far, Cav’s GM Danny Ferry’s gutsy move of wasting no time to trade for Shaquille O’Neal in the past offseason has backfired. Simply, his offensive and defensive games have illustrated why Phoenix has treated his leaving as addition by subtraction. His offensive skills will take a while (if ever) to mesh with that of his Cavalier teammates’ and his defensive liabilities were known to Cavs management well in advance. Certainly, Coach Mike Brown has time to turn it around, but it won’t be easy.
We have rarely been enamored with Mr. Ferry’s player personnel and Lebron’s future with the team will be directly traced to Ferry’s ability to surround Lebron with the one or two “must” superstars and a more subtle roster of players with complimentary skills and character. The season is a GM’s marathon and Ferry better be prepared to make creative trades for players with valuable expiring contracts, such as C Zydrunas Ilgauskas and even Shaq himself.
