By Brian “Scoop” Diehl — Well, it’s not new news by now (for any basketball fan) - LeBron will soon be packing his bags, putting sheets over the furniture and heading south to the Heat of Miami. While he is following his dreams of getting a trophy for his mantle, Northeast Ohio will have to pause and give him thanks for seven years of excitement. With any luck, The King will see the error of his ways - the folly of youth - and head back to the great white north faster than he left us.

We wish him the best - perhaps not a championship - but, good health and a chance to play on the beaches… for a while. Hopefully, this will spur the Cavs to work harder, smarter and better than ever before (you know, the old Phoenix from the ashes routine). Let’s do our damndest to get the gold before he does! I mean, we have the Shaq, right? … right? …is there anyone out there?

By LeBronmeter’s Robert Glassman - So far, Cav’s GM Danny Ferry’s gutsy move of wasting no time to trade for Shaquille O’Neal in the past offseason has backfired. Simply, his offensive and defensive games have illustrated why Phoenix has treated his leaving as addition by subtraction. His offensive skills will take a while (if ever) to mesh with that of his Cavalier teammates’ and his defensive liabilities were known to Cavs management well in advance. Certainly, Coach Mike Brown has time to turn it around, but it won’t be easy.

We have rarely been enamored with Mr. Ferry’s player personnel and Lebron’s future with the team will be directly traced to Ferry’s ability to surround Lebron with the one or two “must” superstars and a more subtle roster of players with complimentary skills and character. The season is a GM’s marathon and Ferry better be prepared to make creative trades for players with valuable expiring contracts, such as C Zydrunas Ilgauskas and even Shaq himself.

It can be said that the town of Cleveland wasted little time in getting Braylon out of town. The King used his title and powers in a perceived manner to get the former Brown out of town before the swelling (from the punch that Edwards hit Jame’s friend with) went away. Now the question is, will James want Edwards around if he moves to New York City?

Brian Windhorst of the Plain Dealer wrote,

“With that in mind, here’s something else: ESPN obtained a memo this week that the league office distributed to all teams, which warned that the salary cap next summer may decrease between $4 million and $7 million. Of the most interest is the New York Knicks. It had been Knicks’ dream to sign two max players next summer and they began a two-year implosion process on their roster in 2008 to try to get that cap space.

The cap rules and the Knicks’ current salary commitments make it appear that it will be nearly impossible to sign two max players. A major part of the Knicks’ strategy is to lure James by signing another megastar to play with him.

All of this comes with the caveat that the NBA, like most things in the business world, is fluid. But the spreadsheets continue to indicate James’ will remain a Cav for the foreseeable future.“

The Cavaliers will always be able to offer James more money than other teams, but his endorsement deals minimize that as an advantage for Cleveland. Over the past few years, owner Dan Gilbert has invested millions to keep his icon happy. The team built a dazzling practice facility near his house, and this summer Cleveland added O’Neal, free agents Anthony Parker(notes), Leon Power(notes) and Jamario Moon(notes) and re-signed Anderson Viejo(notes). James has more reasons to stay than ever.
